SEO for naturopaths: get found in your area, without promising anything about health.

A naturopath writes on sensitive ground. People arrive with health words, and the temptation to answer them with a promise is strong. That's what weakens many websites in your trade. I help you become visible with limited means: an accurate Google Business Profile, a few pages describing your appointments, and a clear presentation of what you do and what you don't.

  1. Rattle your competitors.
  2. Overtake them.
  3. Protect you from their attacks.

A title that says “Home”, not an appointment

A Ruffec resident is looking for a naturopath and wants to know how the first meeting goes. Your website comes up third and shows the title “Home | Naturopathy”. He reads neither your town nor what to expect. Rewrite the title, then the description.

Position 3. Neither “Ruffec” nor “appointment” in your title.

Fig. 1. Three results for a naturopath in Ruffec. Only one actually sees clients in the town. (You were two streets from his house. Your title gave neither the town nor your name.)

What this means for you. I show you how to write these two lines for each page: a town, an appointment, a price, and no word claiming a health effect. You'll then be able to do it again on your own.

What is SEO for a naturopath?

SEO for a naturopath is the work that makes a naturopathy practitioner visible on Google and in AI answers, for residents of their town and neighbouring towns. It relies on a complete Google Business Profile, a page describing the first appointment, a prices page and an introduction to the practitioner and their training. Naturopathy isn't a healthcare profession: the website talks about lifestyle and setting, and claims no effect on any illness or symptom.

The problem

Where naturopaths get stuck.

Symptom 1

People search for you with health words

Digestion, sleep, tiredness, weight: these are the terms typed into Google. You can't answer them the way a doctor would. So you need a way of writing that welcomes these searches without asserting anything, and many practitioners don't know how to go about it.

Symptom 2

Your trade is misunderstood

Some people don't know what a naturopath does during an appointment. Others are wary of it. A vague website feeds both reactions. A website that describes the appointment, its length and its limits answers both.

Symptom 3

You've written lots of articles for few appointments

You were advised to publish on every health topic. These articles attract readers from all over France, rarely a resident of your area. They also expose you on medical topics you have no business commenting on.

An audit, for real

What I see in thirty seconds on a naturopath's website.

The site below doesn't exist, but its flaws do: they're the five I spot most often. Hover over a number.

Fig. 2. Fictional site, reconstructed. Any resemblance to yours would be a good reason to call me.

  1. 1The word “Home” in the title, not the town“Home | Naturopathy” gives neither a place nor a name and locates nobody. “Naturopath in Ruffec”, followed by your name, is accurate and useful.
  2. 2Articles, but no page about the appointmentThe menu leads to general articles. Three links are missing: the first appointment, the prices, your background.
  3. 3A big welcome message“Welcome to the naturopathy practice” gives neither the address nor how an appointment goes. Write what you offer: an appointment, its length, its purpose.
  4. 4A bowl of seeds and a herbal teaThis visual comes from a stock image library and shows products, not your work. A photo of your office and of you inspires more trust.
  5. 5Three formats, no price, no date“Contact me” and “Upcoming dates” force people to write in to find out more. Give each format its length, its price and the next available slot.

What your customers type

What people type when looking for a naturopath.

Six example searches. The health words in them are the users', not mine: I make no claim about what naturopathy brings. The searches in your area are checked during the audit.

1“naturopath” followed by the name of a town
This is the search of someone who has already decided to book. The Google map appears first. Your profile should show the right category, the days you're there, a phone number and a booking link.
2“what is a naturopath”
The person has heard the word and wants to understand. A short page explains that you talk about diet, sleep, activity and daily rhythm, and that you make no diagnosis. It doesn't need a lecture on the history of the discipline.
3“first naturopath appointment what happens”
They want to know how long the appointment lasts, what questions you ask and what to bring. Tell it simply, in order. This page removes the main hesitation before booking.
4“naturopath session price”
The price is one of the first things people look for. Show the price of the first appointment and the follow-ups, with their length. A website that hides its prices loses enquiries to the one that shows them.
5“naturopath digestion” or “naturopath sleep”
These searches link your trade to a concern. Your page can say that these topics lead people to meet you and describe how you work. It claims no change and recommends seeing a doctor first.
6“naturopath online”
Some people live far from a practice or prefer to stay at home. If you see clients remotely, a page says so clearly: tool, length, price, preparation. It can bring you enquiries from outside your town.

What works

A naturopathy practice's five levers.

Lever 1

The Google Business Profile first and foremost

For a naturopath who sees clients at a practice, the profile brings more appointments than the website. I check the category, address, opening hours, booking link and description. That description follows the same rule as everything else: it presents your work, with no health words.

Lever 2

The first appointment, described

I ask you to describe your first appointment as you would on the phone. We turn it into a page: the length, the questions asked, what the person receives at the end, the pace of follow-up appointments. It's the page I advise writing first.

Lever 3

A “what I don't do” page

On it, you write that you don't diagnose, that you don't change any prescription and that you refer people to a doctor as soon as the situation calls for it. This page reassures readers. It also shows Google and AIs a practitioner who knows their limits.

Lever 4

Your background, presented accurately

You state the school you attended, the length of the training, your previous job and the groups you know well. You only use the titles you're entitled to. I help with the layout; the content comes from you.

Lever 5

Workshops and group formats

Cooking workshop, talk at an association, workplace session: these formats have their own searches. If you offer them, each gets a page with a date, a place and a price. They're easy to describe without talking about health.

What costs dearly

The mistakes I often see on naturopaths' websites.

Mistake 1

Writing one page per illness or symptom

I come across this mistake often, and it exposes you. A page named after an illness implies that you treat it. It puts you in competition with medical websites, on a subject where you have no authority. Delete these pages or rewrite them around how you work.

Mistake 2

Giving product advice online

An article recommending a product or a programme to every reader goes beyond your role: you don't know the person reading. Keep advice for the appointment. On the website, explain your approach and nothing more.

Mistake 3

Using a doctor's vocabulary

Some words belong to the medical field and give your website an air it shouldn't have. I flag the ones I spot. It's up to you, or your adviser, to decide what you can keep.

Mistake 4

Publishing testimonials that talk about health

A review describing a symptom disappearing amounts to a promise made by a third party. On your website, choose reviews about listening, clear explanations and the welcome. You don't control those on the Google Business Profile, but you can reply to them with restraint.

The method

Where to start as a naturopath.

Four possible steps. You choose where to stop: for a local practice, the first two cover the essentials.

  1. The profile. A written audit of your Google Business Profile: every field checked, every fix explained.
  2. The proofread. A few hours by video call to reread your pages and spot the sentences that promise an effect.
  3. Independence. A short training session to write your next pages and manage your reviews without me.
  4. Growth. Ongoing support if you launch workshops, retreats or paid online content.

Is SEO right for you?

Five frank questions to find out whether support makes sense in your situation. Sometimes the answer is no, and I'll tell you.

What it brings in

SEO you can count in euros.

A ranking doesn't pay a salary. What counts is what it brings: enquiries, customers, revenue. Move your page up and see what it could bring in.

Example assumptions, open to challenge: 300 searches a month for a naturopath in your area, 4% of visitors make an enquiry, one enquiry in three is signed (this varies a lot from one trade to another), €150 per client. Click-through rates by position are rough estimates, and they've been shifting since Google started showing AI answers above the results. Redo the calculation with your numbers

Close to home

Naturopathy in Charente.

In Charente, a naturopath may see clients in Angoulême, Cognac or a small town such as Jarnac, Ruffec or Barbezieux. They may share premises with other practitioners, see clients at home or travel to them, and offer workshops on top of appointments. Online, this set-up should be clear at a glance: a place, days and times, on your website as on your Google Business Profile.

In Angoulême, stand out through your setting

Around the town, the map may show several naturopaths for the same search. What sets you apart isn't a bigger promise than your neighbour's. It's a described first appointment, a visible price and a background presented plainly.

In Cognac and Jarnac, state your days

If you split your week between two places, people need to know which day to find you in Cognac and which day in Jarnac. Two separate paragraphs, with the address and directions, avoid pointless calls and trips.

In the villages, workshops bring people in

In Ruffec, La Rochefoucauld or Barbezieux, a workshop in a village hall or a shop gets your name known. Announce it on your Google Business Profile with the date and place. Residents looking for something to do near home can see it.

Beyond Google

What AI changes for a naturopath.

Health questions are among the ones people happily ask an AI such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Mistral. For example: “I've been tired since September, can a naturopath help me near Angoulême?”. The answer almost always starts with a recommendation: see a doctor. The AI then explains what a naturopath is and what they don't do, and sometimes gives names.

So the AI presents your profession with caveats before your name even appears. A website that promises an effect contradicts those caveats, and it is unlikely to be cited. A website that says the same thing as the AI fits right in: no diagnosis, referral to a doctor, a description of the appointment, training stated. Practical information counts too: town, days, length, price. I reread your pages with that checklist. It doesn't take a long contract: a few well-prepared hours of work are enough for a practice website.

Three typical cases

Three naturopaths, three different needs.

Three situations made up for the example. They don't describe any real practice and don't apply to everyone: yours is looked at case by case.

A naturopath setting up after a career change

She has no profile, no website, and a tight budget. Recommended format: a profile audit, done as soon as it is created.

  1. Create the Google Business Profile with the right category and service area.
  2. Write three pages herself, from an outline I give her.
  3. Ask her first clients for a review about how they were welcomed.

A naturopath whose website has sixty health articles

His articles are read everywhere except in his own town. Recommended format: coaching hours to sort and rewrite.

  1. Sort the articles: keep, rewrite, remove.
  2. Have his adviser review any text that touches on an illness.
  3. Write the missing pages: first appointment, prices, limits.

A naturopath selling workshops and an online programme

She wants sign-ups from beyond her département. Recommended format: support over a few months.

  1. Create one page per workshop and one page for the programme.
  2. Describe the content and how it's organised, without announcing any result.
  3. Measure the sign-ups that come from Google.

In practice

What you get.

  • An audit of your Google Business Profile, field by field, delivered in writing
  • The list of sentences on your website that claim a health effect
  • A short site plan: about, first appointment, prices, limits, contact
  • Coaching hours or a short training course, depending on what you want to do yourself
  • A clear answer to the question: is SEO your priority this year?

Pricing

How much does an SEO consultant cost?

The fee depends on four things. I give you a precise amount after a free first thirty-minute conversation.

  • The size of the site: ten pages or ten thousand
  • The competition on your queries
  • What you can do in-house, and what needs producing for you
  • The pace you want

FAQ

SEO and naturopathy: your questions.

Is SEO the priority when you're starting out?

Not necessarily. In the first months, your appointments come mostly from people you know, professionals who know you and the workshops you run. Create your Google Business Profile as soon as you open, because it takes little time. The rest can wait until your offer is settled.

Can I write about digestion, sleep or tiredness?

You can say that these topics bring people to see you. In my view as a writer, you cannot announce what naturopathy changes about them. For the exact limit, have your texts checked against the rules that apply to health claims. I won't state it on your behalf.

Should I delete my old articles?

Not all of them. I go through them with you. Those about meal planning, daily rhythm or the way you work can stay. Those that name an illness or recommend a product should be removed or rewritten.

How do I present myself without overstating my title?

State your training as it is: the name of the school, its length, the year. Only add titles you are entitled to use. If you're unsure about a word, ask a qualified source before putting it online.

People ask me whether sessions are reimbursed. What should I put on the website?

Nothing general. Situations differ from one person to another and I don't know those rules. You can write that you provide an invoice and that everyone can check with their own insurer.

Can my clients' reviews cause me problems?

A review describing a health effect commits you less than a sentence you wrote yourself, but it stays visible on your profile. Reply soberly, say thank you, and point out that every situation is different. Don't reuse that review on your website.

Do I need one page per town around my practice?

No, unless you actually see clients there. Ten near-identical pages that only change the town name give the reader nothing, and Google ignores them. One page per place where you actually work, with the days and the address, is enough.

I offer other practices too. Should everything go on the same website?

Yes if they're aimed at the same people, with one page per practice. Keep naturopathy as the main subject of your Google Business Profile if it's your main activity. A profile announcing five professions shows up well for none of them.

Do you know about naturopathy?

No, and I don't claim to. I've been an SEO consultant for fifteen years. You bring the substance and you validate it. I bring the page structure, the choice of topics and an outside eye on the sentences that go too far.

How long before I see an effect on my appointments?

A corrected profile can change things within a few weeks; a new page usually takes several months. It all depends on how many practitioners there are around you. I don't promise any position on Google. If you wish, Newp can track your enquiries during that period, but it's not compulsory.
